The Irish News and Media Centre (INMC) has compiled the top 100 universities in the world, ranking them from 1 to 100.
The top 100, as compiled by INMC, is composed of five universities from each of the five continents: Australia, Canada, the UK, United States and New Zealand.
The University of Edinburgh was the only university to fall in the top five, finishing third.
The rankings were taken from a list of 100, chosen by the media outlet’s editors.
The INMC ranking of universities takes into account both the average number of students enrolled per year and the average tuition fee, as well as the number of graduate students.
Universities with fewer than 10,000 students are not included.
The list of the top 20 most prestigious universities in Ireland includes six in the UK.
The Royal College of Surgeons and University of Oxford, the University of California, Berkeley, the Imperial College of London, University of Sussex, Imperial College Dublin and Imperial College London all fall in that category.
University of Glasgow, the National University of Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, Trinity University, Ulster University and Ulster University of Technology are among the top 10 universities in England.
